Old Fashioned Potato Candy

Whew! It’s been a busy last few months. We FINALLY got back up and running. Blasted plumbers were crazy slow. Like 10 weeks slow. Anyway, it’s all good now. AND we decided to take that time that we were down locally, to branch out and build our online presence! I am super excited to announce that we have opened an Etsy shop! We now ship our candy and select desserts all over the US.

Christmas was very busy, everyone wants old fashioned, traditional candy and we are honored to provide it. We use the same recipes my mammy did the whole time I was growing up. Every bite brings back memories of my mammy cooking Sunday dinner. From potato candy, to homemade caramels to southern divinity, we’ve got it.

I decided to include my mammy’s potato candy recipe so you can bring back memories of your own, or if it’s your first time…make new ones!

Potato Candy

1 medium potato

1 bag of powdered sugar

2 teaspoons butter

1 tablespoon milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

Approximately 1/3 cup peanut butter

potato-candy-2

Boil potato until soft, drain

Add butter and milk

Use a hand masher and mash potatoes completely, add 1/3 bag of powdered sugar

Continue hand mashing until it’s a soupy mess!

Add more powdered sugar until a dough forms, still slightly tacky

Turn out onto parchment paper sprinkled with powdered sugar, knead well

Add powdered sugar just a little at a time until no longer sticky.

Pat dough out into a rectangle and spread with peanut butter

Roll into a log and chill

This is a delicious candy with almost the consistency of fudge. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Thanks for reading and we’ll bring you a new recipe soon!
